DR PETER CRONAU : What is Thermography?
Overview | What is Thermography? | Thermographic Testing
Dr Cronau believes that thermographic testing is an invaluable tool in understanding how saddles interface with the equine back. Thermographic images effectively show exactly what is happening under the saddle and on the horse’s back, and form the most comprehensive and accurate method of evaluation that can be conducted on a saddle.
Thermography relies on the principle that every object with a temperature higher than absolute zero (-273.5ºC/-459ºF) has radiant energy and spreads infrared radiation. The technique of thermography uses colour imagery to illustrate variations in heat emission signatures. Variations in heat emission signatures indicate varying pressure levels present over the surface. Minimal variation in colour represents an even application of pressure.
